What’s the issue?
❌ Over 20 billion individual coffee pods are sold around the world each year.
❌ The extraction and production of plastic and aluminium, the main components of the pod packaging, have important environmental impacts.
❌ The environmental impacts of the disposal of the capsules also poses an issue. Each year, over 60,000 tons of waste is generated in France from the use of aluminium coffee pods.
❌ Recycling aluminium coffee pods is complex, and the French waste sorting centers are not equipped with the adequate technology.
